Frankston Infinity Deck
The opportunity
Retrofitting into an established yard removes the margin for error: every level on site had to resolve to the existing deck height, and access was tight. The brief also went well beyond the pool itself, an outdoor kitchen, a privacy screen, and a breakfast bar that doubles as a firewood holder, all of it expected to read as one original design.
What we did
We craned the Plungie Max in over the neighbouring property and semi-recessed it to sit exactly at deck height, with an infinity edge detail facing the yard. Grey Apricot coping ties the pool edge to new Silvertop Ash decking that knits old and new together. Then the rest of the brief: the outdoor kitchen, a curved hardwood privacy screen, the firewood holder and breakfast bar, seeded lawn and garden lighting. Pool safety compliance came from a sunken garden bed running around the pool, reaching the required 1.2m without a fence dominating the space.
The outcome
Around three months, and a backyard that reads as one design rather than a before and after. What Duncan says he loves most is the thinking: how James tied planning, construction and handover together seamlessly.
Kind Words From Our Happy Customers
"Quick turnaround, responsive, no delays and great timelines. We were kept well informed the whole way through. Our new outlook over the green wedge and Diamond Valley views, incorporating the pool and the deck, is just stunning all year round."
"We first met Black Group at an exhibition about eight years ago and always wanted to work with them. What stood out most was the initial design. What came back from James was well beyond anything we could have imagined ourselves. Our block had its challenges, we're on rock, so there was a lot of machinery and a lot of trades coming and going, but every single person on site was terrific to deal with. Seeing it on a plan and now seeing it come to life is really rewarding."
"James did everything he said he'd do, and then some. We had a deadline for a big party and he pulled out all the stops to get us there. His team worked incredibly hard. We're absolutely thrilled."
