Coastal Courtyard Retreat
The opportunity
Chantel's Tootgarook property does double duty: a coastal retreat for the family, and an Airbnb the rest of the time.
A pool had to work for both, a feature that makes the backyard for the family and earns its keep with guests.
The opportunity
The block had one significant problem: there was no way to get a pool into the backyard from the street. Access this tight is exactly the point where most people assume a pool is off the table, and where a traditional months-long build genuinely would be.
What we did
Because a Plungie arrives precast and is lifted into place, access becomes a logistics question rather than a dealbreaker. With the neighbour's cooperation, we craned the Arena in over the adjoining property and set it above ground, finished inside in Blue Lagoon ecoFinish for that clear coastal water colour. Around the pool we built a Silver Ash timber deck with an equipment storage area underneath, keeping the yard clean and uncluttered, then ran custom double drop face Silver Ash coping around the perimeter and closed it off with a frameless glass balustrade so nothing interrupts the outlook.
The outcome
Around two months from start to a finished backyard, on a block that looked like it couldn't take a pool at all.
